The Protoss motherships are mighty vessels that were constructed centuries ago during the golden age of protoss expansion. They were intended to act as primary command ships to lead vast armadas of protoss explorers into the darkness of deep space and bring them safely home again. Those days are long gone, and the surviving motherships later became holy shrines to the protoss, representing an honored way of life and a part of the proud history of the protoss race.

The Protoss Mothership’s time bomb ability will slow down to crawl all enemy movement in the area around the Mothership. In addition, all missiles fired by stationary base defenses , maybe Goliath missiles perhaps as well, will get caught up in this force field. Once the units are destroyed, the missiles fall to the ground and the Mothership continues unscathed.

The mothership is very effective targetting ground units, it can level all ground reinforcements you are throwing at it. And not only that it can use its Black Hole ability, it is very devastating to your units in range, within the vicinity, and it sucks all your units and can never be seen again.

So how to counter the Protoss Mothership effectively? here are some few techniques and tips..

• Employ the Viking – This could be easily the best counter against the Mothership.By far, with their 28 damage per round of attack versus armored units and their superior speed, their are the best choice.
• Use the Ghost – EMP Round this quickly before they get to cast Vortex. Keep casting EMP Round until their huge shields are down or depleted, then you’ve got half the job done.
• The Thors – They have huge range and their decent damage vs air units, so thanks to that. Thor could be the second best choice however. But still leagues below the Viking.
• Use your Marines – Usually not so great against this huge flying vessel, but then again if your factory and starports are on full production and you’ve got spare minerals, it’s still better than nothing.
