Effective Zerg Baneling & Roach Rush against Terran – Shokz Banelings with Roaches Combo in ZvT

Strategies play a great role in the every game to win. Without strategies it will be like playing the game with no equipments on hand for battle. It is totally useless in playing the game without thinking of strategies. it will become more stronger for you to win when you do combos. I will be talking about zerg combo units again terran. Specifically, banelings and roaches. Firstly, let us get to know more on each units.

Banelings are considered to be highly dangerous and destructive units. It carries a liquid like bag full of chemicals that is ready to explode. It reacts on when an enemy unit or building is near, detonates by command or even if it is killed. So you don’t have a choice when you see banelings. Even if you stay away from them, it will still be commanded to go to the nearest unit or structure to detonate. You will be able to morph zerglings into banelings. It will cost you 25 gas and minerals and would take around 20 seconds. Banelings are good to use against buildings and light units since it causes high damage bonuses when combined with splash damage. Imagine a group of banelings commanded to destroy a hostile army or a certain part of a base. It will be massive. You can send other units to clean up the remaining units that have survived the explosion. Though destructive, banelings have low defenses but there are ways for it to be able to survive the battle.

Make use of burrow upgrade. This would enable the banelings to hide underground and can be used as a trap. When your enemy’s army passes through the line where banelings are hidden, you can detonate them while burrowed to be able to have a massive destruction.

Burrow is the ability of most zerg units to be invisible and reveal itself by detectors and may not attack or move in its position. The exceptions are the roaches who are able to move even when burrowed, as well as the infestor.

Centrifugal hooks is a speed upgrade for banelings. This is also very importatnt in getting your banelings to battle. Without this upgrade, banelings are way too slow to go to battle. You will need 150 minerals and gas to be able to access this upgrade and will take 100 seconds to have this accessible for banelings.

Secondly, the roaches are kinda the same with banelings. They are tough and have a high speed regeneration of their ability when they are burrowed. Roaches are considered to be ranged unit. It has melee attacks like of a hydralisk that performs at a close range but with the same damage rate as of their ranged attack. They are good against zerglings, zealots and hellions but they are weak when up against immortals, ultralisks and mmm. Roaches does not have anti-air attacks. If you want to use the burrow ability, it will need 100 gas and minerals and 100 seconds to be able to do this. Upgrades are also available for roaches to be better in the battle. These upgrades are;

  • glial reconstitution – this will increase roaches’ speed. This would require the lair before it is made available. It would also require 100 gas and minerals before you will be able to access this.
  • Tunneling claws – this upgrade will enable roaches be able to move even if burrowed. It is able to move faster when burrowed underneath the creep.
  • Missile attacks – this is an upgrade for attacks bonuses for zerg ground units and the queens. This would require 100 minerals and gas for level 1, 150 for level 2 and 200 for level 3.
  • Carapace – this will give +1 bonus to zerg ground units’ armor per level.

Now imagine these two at the same time in the battle. One is a bomber and the other is a spit firing unit. The baneling and roaches combo, as what they call it, is considered to be one of the greatest combo strategies for zerg. When playing against terran, its primary goal is to be able to destroy supply depots early in game by using the highly destructive banelings and then followed by roaches as a follow up. You can build a lot of banelings and roaches and by group you send them out to destroy your opponent’s base. Banelings as a group should be aimed to the buildings and important structures of terran like supply depot, barracks, etc. meanwhile, roaches would attack terran units.

Always remember, it is best to send other back up units that has different qualities with banelings and roaches. You will never know what you will be facing in battle and as mentioned, always have a back up strategy. Always put your head in the game and don’t panic. Last but not the least, always have enough units at your base. You will never know what your enemy is up to. He might be planning for an attack on your base from behind.
So it is always best to be ready at all times.

Shokz vs Marrow Commentated Replay – ZvT

Here is a commentated replay of Shokz playing against MarroW who is viewed as arguably the best Starcraft 2 Terran player.

Also, for most of my games, I played through trial and error, using strategies I’ve seen and read online. I managed to do okay but could never really progress further to platinum.

When I got Shokz Guide, it did help me. It’s a good reference. You’ll get a username and password to the member’s area.

Best Starcraft 2 Zerg vs Terran Strategies Guide – Shokz SC2 ZvT Strategy & Counters

With their obsession in producing genetically perfect species, the Zerg is again back to hunt down the weak and to assimilate with potentially powerful beings in the Starcraft galaxy. In the second installment of the game, the Zerg will once again try to conquer Terran and Protoss with their ruthless and cunning abilities to exterminate species that could corrupt the otherwise near-perfect Zerg genome.

;

The Terrans, compared to Protoss, quite possibly fair better in standing against the Zerg. Zerg fans, however, don’t have to fret just as yet as there are plenty of very effective strategies that can help your chosen Zerg race defeat the well-defended Terran juggernauts. In this guide, you will find some of the best Zerg versus Terran strategies.

;

Use the swarm.

;

Zerg strategies for defeating both the Terrans and the Protoss, but more especially the Terrans, are centralized on making full use of the strength of the swarm and massive amounts of units that move in on their enemies in a rush. This is the central theme of all Zerg battle strategies and this is what they are best at. Against Terran, flooding enemy troops is the main strategy you should employ.

;

Close in on enemy with special Zerg units.

;

By design, Terrans are ranged attackers. They can exonerate their enemies within their range, but they are often proved defenseless when attacked from within a close range. Taking this to mind, use special Zerg units that can deal with their enemies from within melee range.

;

Although rarely seen in battles, the Infestors are a special Zerg unit that is venerable for its burrowing abilities and superb enemy harassment capabilities. A number of Zerg units may burrow for protection or ease of movement, but nothing can compare to the Infestors which could remain undetected even when there are detectors nearby. What’s even better is that Infestors can easily take down enemy units even when they’re a few feet underground.

;

Terran units are especially vulnerable against Infestors since these can spawn infested Terran units in their burrowed state. The Infestors also have the ability to take over control of an entire Terran unit with its special Neural Parasite ability. This ability allows full control of both ground and air units, enabling the Infestors to use the special abilities and upgrades of the infested units against their own camp.

;

Scout your terrain and your enemy’s camp.

;

It’s an SOP that most Zerg players often overlook to the detriment of their forces. Before sending out your first offensive attackers, survey your terrain first and scout your enemy’s territories to check on what your opponent can dish out against you. The information you will gather will help a great deal in creating the best strategies you could use to defeat your enemies.

;

The most common, and quite possibly the most effective, Terran vs. Zerg attack is the Marauder and Marine combination with accompanying Tanks and Dropships. If your Terran enemy is using this strategy, you will be able to prepare your counter with units of Zerglings and Infestors. You’d also be able to avoid a deadly counterattack that uses Roaches. Marauders are excellent damage dealers against Roaches. It’s suicide to use this as part of your offensive force.

;

If your rival is building Siege Tanks and Thors, you can prepare plenty of Zerglings to keep them busy. Most winning Zerglings strategies may be built on taking over enemy camp with the least possible downtime, but having a well-planned strategy based on info gathered via scouting could never be underestimated.

;

Expand your colonies…but not too quickly

;

In the rush of the game, most Zerg players try to expand as quickly as their resources allow. Unless you’re well grounded defense-wise, this is a big no-no. And against Terran forces, this proves to be a fatal mistake. You should only expand when you already have ample resources and sufficient defense. Until you can confidently handle massive attacks coming from your enemy, production of offensive units should not take the bulk of your resources.

;

In the end, nothing beats a Zerg versus Terran strategy that is built on the synergy of speed, planning, and a massive force of defense and offense units that enemy troops will find hard to stand against.  The most important thing to keep in mind is to harass your enemy with a constant wave of Speed Zerglings and prevent him from fortifying his camp.

Starcraft 2 Zerg vs Terran Strategy Guide – Shokz Key Points You Should Look Out For Against Terran Strategies

This is a strategy guide on how to defeat some of the common Terran attacks while playing as Zerg. Regardless of what strategy is being used,you have to be ready at all times especially for early Reaper attacks. In order for you to counter attack this, make sure you have an army of Zerglings close to your drones.
;

One of the most common strategy being used by a Terran player is using the Marine/ Marauder with either dropships, tanks, or even both. For you to be able to counter attack this, stay away from roaches and with the speed upgrade of Zerglings and hydralisks. Roaches are poor against marauders because the latter does an extra damage against armored units like roaches. You have to expand quickly and you have to keep the opponent from expanding. By the moment you have established your second base just keep building up your army and starve out the Terran player. Always kep an eye on all of the extra possible base locations and if the opponent tries to expand, you have to quickly attack in order to keep control of the game. When the time comes that he runs out of minerals, he will be forced to attack you and you have to be ready. Use Speed Zerglings and Hydralisks to defeat your opponent.

zerg vs terran banshee

zerg vs terran banshee

Always be prepared at all timea for Dropships and Cloaked Banshee possible attacks. An Overseer should always be ready and make sure you keep scouts around the map so you can spot incoming intruders like Dropships.

Zerg vs Terran Baneling Rush

Zerg vs Terran Baneling Rush

There is also what we so-called the Baneling Rush Strategy. Banelings are used to destroy the Terran wall base and it gets to sneak roaches in before the opponent gets to catch up and rebuild. This takes advantage of the Terran wall, crashing them as early as possible with the use of Banelings and trying to rush for an early victory. For you to be able to get the earliest strike opportunity, you have to locate the base of your opponent before completing the Baneling nest. While doing this, stop producing drones or else everything will suffer. In scouting your opponent with structures which are stronger than the supply depots, you will have to think of another way to attack and that is to have the Banelings attack first and they have to target the supply depot immediately. The Zerglings have to be close enough to be able to harass the Terran base to be able to maximize the damage.

;
Zerg Mutalisk vs Terran Strategy

Zerg Mutalisk vs Terran Strategy

Last but not the least, the One Base Mutalisk Strategy is also an effective attack. This will allow you to do damage on Terran’s Economy with fast Mutalisks. If no air defense is set up in time by the opponent, it will be easy for you to gain control of the game and easy map navigation as well. It will not be that hard for you to deny your opponent from expanding its base. The Mutalisks is good in targeting multiple enemies at one blow. When all else fails, You will still have enough time to be able to catch up and be able to regain control of the game.

;

You have to be careful on fake attacks and you need to be very alert. Do not hesitate to send out scouts to spot it. It is always better to be sure that everything is clear and secured in your area.

;

Just a few reminders, you should have enough number of Drones and Zerglings. Create Overlords before preparing the Mutas and to avoid getting blocked in supply. Distance wise, you need to build the Spire in the middle of your base. By the time your Mutas pop, you should already have scouted the base of your opponent ad fly them over there right away to try and deal damage to his base and gain control of your enemy forces.

;

No Matter how your game evolves, the most important thing to remember is to avoid in letting your enemy get their chance to expand and gather resources. Terrans have very good counter units for Zerg units and if you dont get to check their expansion, it will be difficult for you to beat their race.

Top Zerg Counter to Hellions – Shokz Starcraft 2 Strategies to Countering, Anti-Hellion Units

Without surprise, Hellions are present anywhere where there are ground enemy units. These raiders are fast, they can overtake enemy units and turn around for an ambush attacks. Painfully enough, the damage they foist against their enemies are in sizes disproportionate to their own. Terran players particularly favor Hellions to exact destruction against infantry, while not casting a blow on their costs. Their Internal Flame Throwers continue to spread disruption.

;

So if your race is Zerg, how do you counter Hellions? If your style is hard counters, use the trio combination of Roaches, Ultralisks and Mutalisks. For soft counter, the solo flight of Banelings is a feat to behold, while the team up between Roach and Mutalisk is perfect for air and ground assault.

;
  • Roaches-Ultralisks-Mutalisks. Roaches can regenerate without absorbing harm by burrowing, if you are doing a solo assault. But for a trio, it is best if your roaches block the chokepoints while recharging. And when they have fully regenerated, they can emerge and unleash their acid saliva which could melt down even a neosteel. Upgrade with Tunneling Claws to ambush Hellions, and Glial Reconstitution. Ultralisks are the ultimate ground forces of Zerg. They also compose the backbone of Swarm’s armies. The dangers ultralisks can deliver are equally fierce to Hellion’s. They are also immune against stuns,  mind control and snares. When combined with mutalisks, they can break force fields. Upgrade the speed of its Ram ability. Mutalisks. For air attacks, the Mutalisks are the ultimate weapon. Upgrade on its attack level for  speedier and more accurate assaults. Their velocity can be strength in confounding incoming forces, and thwart ongoing enemy expansions.
  • Banelings. Nothing beats Banelings’ ability to explode against the enemies. They can roll over Hellions which turned around for surprise assaults; this will certainly render Hellions’ tactic a total failure as they see themselves torn up into pieces instead.
  • Upgrade on Banelings’ Centrifugal Hooks.

  • Banelings and Mutalisks. Banelings’ team up with mutalisks is an awesome blast. Explosions from the ground and air will disrupt a group of Hellions, which are further demolished by other explosions from Banelings. You can even do splash damage as you detonate them. Upgrade on burrow, so they can detonate while burrowed.
  • Mutalisks should have an upgrade on their Flyer Attack level for sharp shooting against targeted Hellions. This will disintegrate Hellions which collectively or closely attack your units, especially if Mutalisk’s Glave wurm is upgraded.

How To Best Counter Thors with Zerg – Shokz Starcraft 2 Strategies for Anti-Thor Units

Another key mechanical unit of Terran is the Thor, which is breathtaking in vanquishing mass armored air units, and absorbing massive damage from enemies by leading an assault. Because of their durability—making them good at sustaining massive amounts of damage—they are favored for front lines, and thereby absorbing preemptive fire from enemy units.

The Thor is equipped with anti-air missiles which can stimulate splash damage to all neighboring enemy units, including groups of armored airships.

Looking on how to best counter Thor As a Zerg player? You are left with three strategies ranging from solo to combination of units: Infestor, Zerglings and Roaches, and Hydralisk.

  • Infestor. There are three great things about an infestor, and one greatest thing about it. Infestors are great in:
    • i. ingesting infested marines, which are carried to combat zones, and surge them to fight for the Swarms.
    • ii. casting fungal growth against your enemies
    • iii. casting a powerful AoE spell that ensnares and destroys units.
  • ;

    The Infestor’s Neutral Parasite—that thrives inside—is the greatest thing about this creature. Once its symbiotic creature is unleashed, you can control the mind of Thor for a short period of time. Take advantage of this opportunity to assault the enemy units, even a few Thors. Infestors can also move while burrowed, which makes it easy for you to surprise-attack enemies and control their mind set.

  • Zerglings and Roaches. Zerglings are very powerful against Thor. Using them with Roaches is perfect for hard counter plans. Zerglings are counted on for striking assaults against Thor and other enemy units. Since Thor can suck the air, it is wise to amass enormous amounts of zerglings, and upgrade their Metabolic Boost and Adrenal Glands. You can also make use of their ability to burrow.
  • ;
  • Roaches are hard to vanquish because they can heal themselves big time at a high speed, while launching fatal acid blasts. And while they are regenerating, they make a huge blockade against chokepoints. If their abilities are not upgraded to level 2 or 3, they make a best team with Zerglings. However, if you have upgraded Roaches’ Glial Reconstitution and Tunneling Claws or Ground Carapace, they do a pretty solo counter attacks against Thor.
  • ;
  • Hydralisks. For effective solo counters, upgrade your Hydralisk’s Groove Spines, Missile Attacks to higher levels. They are great at making up-close damage. Take advantage of their needle spines and ability to burrow for surprise assaults. If the levels are not upgraded, pair them up with other units such as banelings for an explosive victory.
;

One weakness of Thor that you can use in your favor is its slow motion. Upgrade the speed level of your unit’s regenerating and attacking prowess.

Best Zerg Counter for Siege Tanks – Shokz Starcraft 2 Strategies to Stop Terran, Anti-siege tank Units

Looking on How to Best Counter Siege Tanks Using Zerg? Siege tanks are a crucial component of Terran’s Mechanical army, hence, they are always seen in a factory with an attached Tech Lab. While they may be expensive, they are preferred by most players for three reasons:

  1. To defend their base
  2. To harass your units especially when on cliffs, and
  3. For slow pushes across a map.

The dangerous thing about siege tanks is when they are not in siege mode, but protected with bunkers and missile turrets—their speed is faster, while its ability to cause full damage against all units is flawless.

;

On the bright side, Zerg is never left without defense. In contrast, zerg has units that can launch attacks and counter attacks big time. For solo attacks, your Queen can carry out impressive jobs of destruction. And so do your Mutalisks.

;

But, if your preferences should vary, there are combinations that can do pretty retaliations against siege tanks. These combinations include Dark Swarms and Zerglings, Banelings and Roaches, and Banelings and Mutalisks.

;
  • Mutalisks - Known for their ability to carry out attacks against multiple targets, mutalisks are best for hard counters against siege tanks, especially if you snipe down each tank. If your mutalisks are upgraded, they can do pretty solo counters. However, if you want to test the ability of your other units, you can release Zerglings and Hydralisks after you have hit pretty hard on these tanks.
  • ;
  • Now you have to understand that your enemy will also use other units such as Thors and Vikings to back their battalion. If such thing happens, amass ultralisks. A large army of ultralisks is required to break through the Terran line, and stand up against any siege tank fire. Your mass ultralisks can do bonus and splash damage to several armored units.
  • Banelings and Roaches – These two units do well if your plan is to unleash a soft counter. Banelings can devise suicide explosions against siege tanks. They can even burrow and detonate. Roaches, on the other hand, do pretty jobs in standing up against attacks by siege tanks; they are difficult to kill because they can easily regenerate. You can take advantage of their ability to move stealthily against opponents while burrowed.
  • ;
  • Banelings and Mutalisks – For air and ground counter attacks, it is always best to destroy tanks with air units with Mutalisks, or  subjugate a few siege tanks with explosion from a group of banelings.

Best Zerg Counter for Reapers – Shokz Starcraft 2 Strategies to Stop Terran, Anti-Reaper Units

The Reaper is Terran’s light armored unit that can inflict strong damage against any light armored unit including Zerg’s. Terran players mobilize their reapers in cliffs, and against their enemy’s low tier units. You will see them common in hit and run harassments because of Reaper’s strength against your Drones and buildings, as well as against your Spawning pools to render your construction of any enemy units at bay.

;

Looking on How To Best Counter Reapers As Zerg? Many professional players employ different strategies based on their standards, style and purpose. Regardless of the variations, however, it is wise to understand that you should use a combination of your units for counter-attacks. This prevents your units from exhausting all their energy, minerals and health level.

;

A few of the great combinations include: roaches and mutalisks, banelings and hydralisks, and hydralisks and mutalisks. There is also a solo strategy used by a very few veteran players, and this is by taking advantage of the skills and characteristics of Zerglings. Here are Zerg’s anti-reapers units :

;
  • Zerglings – Reapers take delight in staging early attacks. So, to protect your weaponry and life for any surprise attacks, release your Zerglings. Your Zerglings, however, should have speed upgrade. Quick zerglings can over take and finish off the reapers before they can retreat. Take advantage of your spawning pools to upgrade the speed of these creatures.
  • ;
  • Roaches and Mutalisks – This combination is perfect for hard counter against reapers. Roaches are your best defense because besides the damage they are capable of inflicting, they can also be efficacious in thwarting your enemies from staging any anti-air/ground and air to air retaliation.
  • ;

    Mutalisks, on the other hand, are your basic air unit. When you use these creatures in groups, they can be particularly powerful. Mutalisks are the ultimate units for launching hit-and run attacks against susceptible installations wheeling across the skies. Their voracious Glave Wurm can be a deadly tactic against any opponents from the air and ground.

    ;
  • Banelings and Hydralisks – For soft counter against reapers, use the combination of Banelings and Hydralisks. Although the banelings are sluggish, they are deadly when they are close to enemies. Their loyalty to Zerg race is best manifested as they form a ball and roll over your enemies before they trigger their innate chemical payload to finally explode together with the lurking foes.
  • ;

    The best tool of hydralisks is found on their carapaces, where hundreds of armor-penetrating spines can be used to fire in volley against foes from ground and air. Their musculature can launch a Needle Spine at an impressive speed, making hydralisks perfect for penetrating 2 cm of neosteel.

    ;
  • Hydralisks and Mutalisks – You can use this combination if you hit the Lair Tech as this makes the reapers become useless to Terran players. Then, prepare to launch your hydralisks and mutalisks.

Shokz Best Counters Mass Marines Rush with Zerg – How to Counter Mass Marines Starcraft 2 Zerg Strategies

Unlike the other two races in StarCraft II, Zerg does not rely on technologies to defeat enemies. Rather, they rely on their innate prowess and characteristics. Zerg can evolve and mutate, which when properly accomplished can promise absolute domination. And since they do not allow technologies to dictate their weaponry, it is best if you make use of zerg’s skill in burrowing to re-gain health and to stage a surprise attack.

;

Marines are among the first to plague Zerg units. Most often, marine units attack by masses. The best Zerg units to defeat mass marines are the Zerglings, Hydralisks, Ultralisks and the Brood Lord. So how do you counter mass marines as zerg? Here are the Anti-mass marines units :

;
  • Zerglings - Zerglings are efficacious in distracting the mass marine units of your enemies. You can use these units to exhaust the health level of mass marines, while your other units are preparing for the kill. Zerglings’ fast-attacking ability and razor-sharp fangs can be impressive in luring your enemies into a trap.
  • ;
  • Hydralisks - Zerg’s hydralisks are the most versatile unit as they can attack from ground and air. They are also the fiercest and the most dangerous strain with their upper carapace plates filled with spines, which can pierce through a 2-cm neosteel. Once, you have nurtured them to evolve, they gain the ability to burrow for health re-generation. To overwhelm the mass marines, Hydralisks should be produced in large numbers by constructing several hatcheries at every opportunity.
  • Hydralisks are best paired with Zerglings, Mutalisks and Dark Swarm.

    ;
  • Ultralisks - If the mass marines persevere in attacking you, release your ultralisks to mow over their infantry lines. However, you have to make it certain that the carapaces of your ultralisks are fully upgraded so the attacks of marines will have little effect.
  • Your ultralisks are your ultimate weapon on the battle ground. They are the backbone of your Swarm’s armies. When they are unleashed to fight, you can rely on their huge bone-like scythes to tear through mass marines with ease. The best thing about these creatures is their immunity against mind control and stuns. And since one of their line strategies is to deliver an “area of effect”, they are your best weapon against multiple attackers.

    ;
  • Brood Lord – The Brood lord is a strong air-to-ground Zerg unit. Also known as the Zerg siege unit, you can use the brood lord to attack from a long range. Many professional players use brood lord to attack mass marines because each unit of brood lord spawns two broodlings with strength similar to Zerglings. Although broodlings are not gifted with long life, they are easily produced with every attack of brood lord.
  • On the other hand, these units are quite expensive when it comes to resources and technological requirements. To solve this issue, it is best to have a Spawning pool, followed by Lair, Spire and Infestation Pit. Then, get a Hive and Greater Spire. These units are best used when the game runs longer and your enemies are amassing mass units.

Best Counters Against Terran Marauder – Top Starcraft 2 Zerg Strategies

So what are the best counter attacks against the Terran marauders with Zerg units? If you are new to Starcraft 2, you would be easily beaten by Terran Marauders because Terran Players would mass up a bunch of them to take you out really fast and really easy.

So what are the strategies to counter Terran Marauders with Zerg? Here are some few pointers in this strategy guide…

Know that since Marauders can only shoot other ground units, it makes them very susceptible to being shot down from the air. So any air unit that can shoot at ground units will take Marauders out easily like the Banshees, Void Rays, Mutalisks, and all the capital ships but Zerg units would be best.

In order to counter and defeat Terran Marauders, you can use the most basic Zerg unit to surround and destroy them quite quickly. The Zerglings, they are light armor type so they don’t take very much damage from the Marauders. Especially with the speed upgrade and/or on creep, Zerglings can easily chase down the Marauders and surround them to be sure they can’t get away and kite them.

Then, a little farther up the tech tree is the Hydralisk. These Zerg creatures are fairly slow, but they are very good against Marauders because of their fast rate of fire and they are light units so they only take 10 damage per shot from them. They definitely have a lot less hp though, so that means it is best to put another unit in front of them to take the hits.

Those are only a few tips on how to counter the Terran Marauders using Zerg units. There are more advanced Zerg strategies and techniques found in this guide…

For advanced and secret strategies & techniques, I recommend checking out the guide below:
